Many of us experienced heartwarming gatherings this past Thanksgiving holiday filled with rich aromas and hearty feasts. However, for some families in El Paso, the reality is different, and providing a Thanksgiving dinner can be a struggle. This is where Raiz Federal Credit Union stepped in, showcasing its commitment to community service by ensuring that more families can enjoy a festive Thanksgiving meal.
Making a Difference for Families in El Paso
Raiz proudly participated in the third annual Vetsgiving event hosted by the Military Veteran Peer Network. This drive-thru initiative aims to support service members, Veterans, and their families by providing Thanksgiving food baskets. Raiz joined this meaningful cause in 2022, contributing turkeys and raising over $1,300 over the past three years to help cover the expenses of these Thanksgiving necessities.
The thoughtful baskets provided by Raiz included gift cards for perishables, plus all the ingredients needed for delicious side dishes, ensuring that families of four could enjoy a complete Thanksgiving meal.
Partnering with Local Organizations
In addition to Vetsgiving, Raiz partnered with Veterans One Stop to donate nine Thanksgiving baskets directly to students at Bowie High School. This partnership highlights Raiz’s dedication to supporting local youth by providing them with the nourishment needed to thrive, especially during the holiday season.
Furthermore, Raiz sponsored the KLAQ 95.5 FM and 93.1 KISS FM Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway, helping an additional six underserved families with packages that included turkey, ham, stuffing, and green beans, among other traditional holiday foods.
Impacting the Community
Overall, thanks to the combined efforts of Raiz and its partners, nearly 200 families in El Paso had a sit-down to a Thanksgiving meal this year. This initiative reflects Raiz’s core values of empowerment, impact, and uplift as they dedicate time and resources to volunteer and give back during the holiday season.
